To Be Continued . . .
Didn’t you hate seeing that when you were a kid! I remember watching some of my favorite shows and would groan when that phrase was flashed on the screen at the “not end”. It meant I would have to wait to see if Laura would say “yes” to Almanzo, or to see the resolution of a situation in the Huxtable family.
simple Analogy is going through some exciting changes and will now be continued over here. See you there!
I don’t know about you, but I have problems. It seems to be getting worse as I get older and not better. The problem is my face.
As a teen I had the occasional pimple and t-zone trouble. I dealt with it the best I could and just hoped for the time when I was a little older and it would all go away. But I am in my thirty’s now and it’s worse. What’s that all about? So, I feel that it’s time to take things into my own hands.
I found a book at the library that categorizes your skin, recommends products for your type, and gives you some things to stay away from. It’s called The Skin Type Solution by Leslie Baumann, M.D. I came across an article written by her and decided to try the book. It is 475 pages long, but don’t let that scare you. After your read the first few chapters, which are about her research and philosophy, she has you take a test to find out your type. Then you go to that chapter and read about problems, needs, and recommendations for your specific skin type. Revolutionary! No more one-size-fits-all skin regimens that don’t work.
My skin type . . ORPW (Oily, Pigmented, Resistant, Wrinkled). Doesn’t that sound lovely? I am a red head, therefore very pigmented (lots of freckles) and also prone to wrinkle because I burn easily. My skin doesn’t react to many soaps, so it is considered resistant. And although I am not horribly oily, I have just enough to be put in that category. Once I had my category, it was time to see which products to stay away from and which were recommended.
Of course you may be thinking that all a doctor would recommend would be prescriptions or the most expensive products from the cosmetics counter. But that is the best thing about the book! She recommends a list of products that range from cheap-at-the-grocery-store to more-expensive-at-the-mall. Sounds good to me!
I also am trying an new foundation. The one I have used since I was a teenager is leaving my face feeling too heavy and greasy. So, I am giving Bare Minerals a try. I really like the way it feels on my face. It is easy to put on, looks natural, covers well, and doesn’t feel like I have makeup on at all! The kit came with all the brushes I need to get started, a priming serum, two foundations, a bronzer (you can use it for blush), a finishing powder, and an instructional DVD. Plus, it is all natural – no chemicals! Joel is cheering!
I’m off to save my face. I’ll let you know how it goes.
When I was growing up, my dad had business trips that we would get to tag along on. Places like San Antonio, San Diego, Denver. After I got married, he started going to really cool places. Like Calgary, Paris, and Amsterdam. Of course my sister got to still tag along, but not me.
When my mom found out that the next big business trip was to Calgary, she asked me to come with them. Lake Murrain is her favorite place on earth. So, come June, that’s where we will be going!
When Noah heard about my trip he was not all that thrilled. I had just spent three nights at my mom’s house taking care of her when she had the flu. He missed me. The very day I got home, Joel mentioned something about me going to Canada. Noah asked in a very forlorn tone, “How long will you be gone?” When I told him a week, he groaned.
Joel has decided to make the time while I am away into a fun time for the three of them. Instead of charging their activities, Joel is scheduling extra jobs now so that they can do thier stuff “debt free”. He is having the boys help him do the work. He has always been good about teaching them that hard work is a good thing and that there’s nothing wrong with getting dirty.

Noah helped trim some trees, pull up ferns, and mulch. Dirty is good, and it will make one little boy in particular very happy while I am away.
Our family has long awaited Caspian, and it starts today in theaters!!!!
Caspian is the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. A few years ago, we bought the boys the dramatized version of the Chronicles of Narnia produced by Focus on the Family. We were Narnia fans after that. I highly recommend these CD’s. Interesting for kids as well as adults and 22 hours of good entertainment. Buy it here and save $23 over Amazon!
We went to see the first movie and were not disappointed. They did such a great job in casting the characters and transforming the original story into the movie. So, now it’s time for the next installment!
The boys will have their last day of AWANA on Wednesday. There’s nothing like a little present to say thanks to the teachers! They put in a lot of time with my children and I appreciate it.
We are going to be doing some baking and will put the goods in small, clear plastic gift bags. I took a trip to Michael’s for some tag inspiration. I was pleasantly surprised by all the new things they had. They now carry Amy Butler papers! You can buy a small pad of assorted papers for about $5. And even better than that . . . the paper is double sided! I got so excited! I started picking out some extras to go with it, but then realized the colors weren’t right for what I had in mind. Start over.
I bought a small pad of playful, summery papers and matching button stickers. They are made out of cardboard with holes already punched. Design on one side, sticker on the other. I used some embroidery floss to “sew” the buttons on and left some extra thread to tie it onto the gift.

Now, time to get baking!
P.S. I’ve added a new link on the left. . . Surrounded. This is Simple Sparrow’s photography journal. Since she’s taking a sabbatical for the summer, this is a way to enjoy her photos. Hope you enjoy them too!
The boys were involved in the AWANA Games this weekend. Lots of churches, tons of kids, many events, and best of all . . . lots of fun! (Our team is in the lime green. I took a bazillion pictures, but I’ll only post a few.)
This is Landon’s last year in AWANA. We only have a few weeks until it’s over, so it’s time for me to think about teacher gifts. Hmmmmm, what to do this year!
We went to see the new documentary by Ben Stien. It was very good. Thoroughly researched, funny, makes you think. I highly recommend it! For more info go to www.getexpelled.com (and make sure you watch the teaser trailer – funny).
I am not really a purple person. But there area few instances where purple is my favorite color . . .
When my Lily of the Nile is is bloom. Gentle purple!
When I use this lotion. Fragrant purple!
When I use this color on my eyes. Sugarplum purple!
When I see this. Sunset purple!
When there are pretty purple triangles. Asparagus purple!
When it’s ripe and juicy. So-dark-it’s-almost-not-purple purple!
When she uses it in her quilts. So alive purple!
I should name the crayons next time!
How many purple things can you find that you enjoy?
I just heard on the news this morning that this is “TV Turn Off Week”. What will they think of next? The thing is to try to go without TV for a week. (Or for those who will go through withdraws, to watch less than normal.)
Need some ideas to fill the time?
1. Read a book out loud as a family. Kids love to be read to!
2. Play a board game or cards. Try a new game with the kids. I recommend Blokus or Blokus Trigon!
3. Go for a walk or a family bike ride .
4. Look through old family albums. The kids love to look at pictures of you when you were younger and looked “really weird”.
5. Do a project together. Outside – plant some flowers. (Most kids love to get dirty!) Inside – make some cookies. There’s always room for cookies.
6. Craft together. Get out the coloring books, paints, embroidery floss, whatever . . . and have fun.
7. Do a puppet show – or have the kids do one for you. Let them charge admission, make popcorn, and do special effects lighting. (In our house this consists of us holding flashlights on the set while Noah does the show. You’re arm will get tired after a while, but it does a lot for ambiance!)
Lest you think that the turn off cannot be done, let me assure you it can! When we got married, my husband and I decided we would try to go without a TV. NO! We are not wackos! We liked it and for thirteen years have gone TV-less. We get to spend a lot of time together as a family, and we enjoy that.
So, give a try for a week! You might like it, too.
